Ommegang

Over the past few months, negative news about the dirty streets, the rising gang crime and politicial unrest have dominated our lives. It’s easy, therefore, to forget that Brussels still has wonderful things to offer. That’s what makes the Ommegang so incredibly important: it reminds us that the people of this city are still capable of achieving incredible things. So great, in fact, that this annual spectacle has been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.

This is all thanks to an army of volunteers who spend months preparing the celebration each year, dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to this age-old tradition. Let us be proud of our roots, our customs, and our history. I sincerely bow to these wonderful people who make it all happen. Bravo.
